Your input will inform future projects. * All microphones remain muted to support the flow of the event during the meeting, 00:58:21 Nicole Burson: Hello everyone, I'm here today to give some ideas that have been bouncing around in my head. I am only one person who is not working for any organization my comentment to help with homelessness is the same today as it was when I was homeless, I give what I have to offer. hats, gloves, socks blankets, ect. people need to understand that alot of homeless people choose to be homeless due to mental health issues. they simply do want the responsibility it takes to keep and maintain a home. with that said my request is to divert some of the funds for sanitary solutions, porta potties as well as portable sinks, If i may suggest that the counties open up unused parcles of land and parking lots to make safe encampments, I suggest we get together and get these people relocated to the designated incampments, I suggest the police department to maintain that the incampments remain off the public sidewalks. as a tax payer I can assure you if we spend thousand of dollars to get only a few of the streets will only continue.. 00:58:56 Al Ratcliffe: Very important requests. How and where will the list of requests be posted publicly and circulated through the media? 00:59:44 Megan Capes: Coming soon! Great question, Al. 01:00:06 Stefanie Glover (She/Her): These are some brilliant ideas.. I would love to see these in real life!!! 01:00:28 Nicole Burson: to outrage these already angry homeowners. let's stop the violence for all. I have resources to get hundreds of word crates to get these tents off the cold ground but we desperately need designated places across the county to put our less fortunate souls. 01:01:30 Novus-Khan Binyaamem: I love the idea collaborating with JBLM using their resources and knowledge. 01:01:55 Amanda Westbrooke: it is time for Metro Parks to step up 01:02:29 Al Ratcliffe: I suggest the JBLM request also be directed to the WA National Guard. 01:02:48 Novus-Khan Binyaamem: HoooAH 01:05:56 Carolyn Read: These are powerful and meaningful requests! I may have missed it but it would be nice if the City would revisit the tax breaks (8yr and 12 yr) they give contractors for building multifamily homes and ensure this money benefits low-income housing. we need money for these requests. 01:08:34 Sean Harrison: If anyone is interested in overdose education, we will soon be providing webinars on our various social media sites, but are always willing to share this information. Let's keep our health department strong - maybe we could get additional funding for them so they can meet the commitment of ensuring that we prioritize vulnerable populations for vaccine access. 01:21:36 Chelsea Talbert: love that idea Nathan!!!! 01:21:54 Carolyn Read: PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION TO THE COUNCIL urging that them to approve 1/10 of 1% tax for housing. The need is only increasing and burdening all in our community including support services such as hospitals, police and non-profit organizations. Without housing and support, people are dying! We all know that housing is critical for a thriving community. Current funding is not able to meet the need of this housing crisis. https://www.gopetition.com/petitions/revenue-for-housing.html 01:21:55 Sean Harrison: Thanks Nathan! 01:21:58 Gerrit Nyland: More information on the Tacoma Pierce County Coalition to End Homelessness -including next steps after this meeting, access to our listserv, information about resources for folks experiencing homelessness, and much more - is at https://pchomeless.org/ 01:22:58 Gerrit Nyland: Questions about the Coalition - like how you can inform or take part in our work? email info@pchomeless.org 01:23:13 Sherri Jensen: Valeo will offer employment services to individuals experiencing homelessness and with barriers to employment. We will partner with local behavioral health partners to provide assessments and treatment navigation, case management, and housing navigation. Partnering with local housing programs (and advocating for significantly MORE housing programs), we will help participants move into permanent, full-time employment and housing. 01:23:16 Sarah Rumbaugh: Let’s get Pierce County Council to pass the 1/10th of 1 percent for behavioral and mental health. Please reach out to Hans Zeiger and ask him to vote yes on this. 01:23:39 Haili Crow: Yay, Sherri and Valeo! 01:23:50 Shoko Yoshikawa: So when can those tent encampments in Tacoma city sidewalks be removed? 01:24:20 Kevin Glackin-Coley: Thank you Sherri! 01:26:29 Carolyn Read: Good job Maureen! 01:27:10 Megan Capes: Thank you for joining us this morning! We appreciate community coming together this morning to combat the homelessness crisis. All documents linked in the chat as well as this video recording will be sent out after this event. For any questions or to line up follow-up conversations, please email info@pchomeless.org. 01:28:46 Mary Connolly: I am part of a group of neighbors committed to partnering with TNE to set up a permanent sharps container on 14th and G (near Nativity House.) Thanks Maureen & the Coalition for organizing. 01:29:34 Sean Harrison: Thanks for stepping up, Mary! 01:30:06 Carol Mitchell: We want the County Council to decouple the Behavioral Health Tax and pass it separately from the approval of the "ACO," what the Executive refers to as healthcare reform of the Medicaid system. The ACO requires state and federal approval and should not be linked to the 1/10th of one percent tax. There has been little or no input from Medicaid-covered persons (some unsheltered or houseless) -- only from large healthcare providers and the ACH. Without consumer voice, the design is faulty from the start. 01:30:11 Colin DeForrest: We need to create safe places for all to truly create a safe community for us all! We need to meet people where they are... Its that simple 01:30:45 Rob Huff - MDC (he/him): Yes, Carol! 01:31:07 Troy Christensen: Thank you, Carol! 01:31:31 Amanda Westbrooke: Speak it Carol 01:32:12 Jennifer Frisk: Thank you! 01:32:22 Brianna Lantz: Agreed Carol. Even those of us interested in exploring and ACO do not want the tax linked to anything, The RSCC specifically called this out as two different ideas. 01:32:28 Sokha Keo: Thank you so much! 01:32:31 Melinda Raebyne: thank you. 01:32:33 TeyAnjulee Leon: Thank you 01:32:36 Rosemary Powers: Maureen: Thanks so much for organizing this summit. There is a lot here for all of us to do to respond to t his emergency. 01:32:38 Alina Flores: Thank you all 01:32:38 Nathan Blackmer: Thank you!
